Jay Johnson

Jay is the former recruiting coordinator and middle distance coach for the Track and Field and Cross Country program at the University of Colorado. During his time as the recruiting coordinator, Jay made evaluations, handled phone calls, and set up official visits, including coordinating travel for recruiting and ensuring all of the NCAA mandated paperwork was in order. Prior to his time at CU, Jay was the Head Track and Cross Country Coach at Pratt Community College, a junior college (JUCO) in Pratt, Kansas.

The two experiences - recruiting as part of one of the elite distance programs in the NCAA and recruiting at a small junior college - give Jay a unique lens through which he views the recruiting process. Jay was a walk-on athlete who eventually earned a scholarship at the University of Colorado. Jay was fortunate to run on the varsity cross country team chronicled in Running with the Buffaloes.

Jay has a masters degree in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology from the University of Colorado.

Patrick Wales-Dinan

Patrick brings a unique perspective to recruiting, having been both a Division III athlete and coach - Bates College and Williams College - then coaching at the NCAA Division I level at Duke, Long Beach State, and Harvard. Thus, Patrick has recruiting experience at two institutions that do not give athletic scholarships, Williams (Division III) and Harvard (Ivy League). His Division I experience is unique in that he coached at a well funded and academically selective school (Duke) as well as a state institution where the focus was on recruiting in-state students (Long Beach State).

Patrick’s first coaching experience was at the high school level at Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine. His first collegiate coaching job was as an assistant coach at the University of Southern Maine (Division III).

Patrick competed in both cross country and track at Bates College, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Economics.
